Pioneer Graduate Of Master Of Project Management And Doctorate Of Business Administration
– Dr Anas Alam Faizli

The academic pursuit I undertook with OUM changed my life almost immediately. When I began my doctorate with OUM, I had very basic and limited exposure to business and economics. I had strong technical exposure in the industry but I realised I needed business-related knowledge, too, to make myself complete. I was hungry.

I pursued my doctorate via the coursework method because I needed the discipline that only a formal education can provide. By going through this process, I equipped myself with research capabilities and have been blessed with many interesting opportunities. In the process, in parallel with going through the doctorate programme with OUM, I have authored a book (Rich Malaysia, Poor Malaysians: Essays on Energy, Economy and Education), spoken at talks and seminars held by various universities and forums, and even set up an economic think tank.

I would say that it is my academic experience which fuelled my desire to pay it forward. It led me to volunteer with Teach for the Needs, a group which provides free tuition for the underprivileged.

Looking back, I feel it has been a transformative and fulfilling journey, and just like OUM’s motto, I’m going through life learning experiences until today. I’m still learning now, every day, just like when I was at OUM. Thank you, OUM, for providing the equipment and the mental faculty for me to continue thriving.
